PowerTeaching
About the Intervention
PowerTeaching is a middle school math program developed by the Success for All Foundation that emphasizes cooperative learning strategies to improve math instruction for students in grades 6-8. The program can be implemented within any school's or district's existing curriculum as it focuses on instructional practices rather than specific math content. PowerTeaching requires schools to commit to three years of implementation and provide a part-time math facilitator. Teachers receive initial training before the school year and ongoing professional development through biweekly component team meetings led by the facilitator. The program places students in longstanding heterogeneous skill groups and teaches specific cooperative learning strategies including team recognition, equal opportunities for all students to contribute, and team interdependence through techniques like random reporter.
