Pre-K Mathematics: A Multicomponent Supplementary Math Curriculum for Pre-Kindergarten Children, Especially Those from Families Experiencing Economic Hardship.
Pre-K Mathematics is a multicomponent supplementary math curriculum for pre-kindergarten children, intended to target the development of informal mathematical knowledge in young children, especially those from families experiencing economic hardship. Pre-K Mathematics consists of a sequence of small-group math activities with concrete manipulatives that teachers implement in the pre-K classroom, as well as home math activities in the form of picture strips for parents to use with their children. The program includes teacher training and coaching, and the content of the activities is based on developmental research about the nature and extent of early mathematical knowledge. The curriculum targets a range of pre-K mathematics concepts and skills, including number, operations, geometry, pattern knowledge, and measurement, and is designed to prepare children for each of the clusters of standards included in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics at kindergarten.
