National Math + Science Initiative's (NMSI's) College Readiness Program (CRP)
About the Intervention
The National Math + Science Initiative's College Readiness Program (CRP) is a 3-year program designed to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education in high schools to improve students' readiness for college, with a focus on students traditionally underrepresented in Advanced Placement (AP) courses in mathematics, science, and English. The program provides teacher supports through professional development (4-day College Board Summer Institutes annually, three 6-hour Saturday study sessions), content specialist support, and vertical team collaboration meetings. Student supports include a minimum of 40 hours of afterschool tutoring per year per AP teacher, at least four Saturday study sessions led by subject-matter experts, and access to online resources. The program also provides equipment and supplies to schools, covers at least 50% of AP exam fees, and offers financial incentives to both teachers ($100 per passing student plus $1,000 bonus for meeting targets) and students ($100 per passed AP exam). Schools must agree to open AP classes to all students and meet performance goals set in collaboration with NMSI.
