CW-FIT (Class-Wide Function-Related Intervention Teams): Improving Student On-Task Behavior in Elementary School Art Classrooms
About the Intervention
CW-FIT (Class-Wide Function-Related Intervention Teams) is a multitiered group contingency program that targets student on-task behavior in elementary art classrooms. CW-FIT focuses on implementing a continuum of preventive practices in classroom settings to manage behavior in positive ways. The program begins with teaching three social skills to each class: following directions the first time, getting the teacher's attention the right way, and ignoring other students' inappropriate behavior. The teacher organizes students into teams and sets a daily point goal for teams to earn a reward. The teacher awards points to teams having all members following the social skills and tracks points on a seating chart. Teams that reach the daily point goal earn a reward, which can be tangible or experiential. For students who continue to have difficulty displaying the social skills, the teacher adds a self-management component where students track their own behavior in relation to the social skills.
