Intervention Summary
iPersonalize is a gamified instructional approach that aims to encourage student engagement and promote achievement in English language arts (ELA) by incorporating computer game elements into existing classroom, instructional, and assessment processes. The program is designed to promote student engagement and achievement by augmenting current teaching and assessment strategies for ELA and the California Content Standards with game elements such as an epic storyline, quests, and badges. iPersonalize includes a six-phase instructional cycle that introduces students to learning goals and standards, provides pre-assessment, engages students in an epic storyline, and offers opportunities for students to interact with new knowledge, practice, and demonstrate mastery of standards. The program also includes a reteach cycle for students who need additional support. iPersonalize is facilitated by an online learning management system that provides individualized instruction and monitors progress during certain phases of the instructional cycle.
