About the Intervention
Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum (ERWC) is a college-preparatory English language arts (ELA) curriculum developed by the California State University (CSU) to improve students' readiness for college-level English and future careers through the in-depth study of expository, analytical, and argumentative reading and writing. ERWC consists of modules for grades 11 and 12 and is sometimes referred to as the ERWC 3.0. This report describes the process and findings of WestEd's independent evaluation to analyze whether the ERWC 3.0-including the newly developed grade 11 ERWC modules and the revised grade 12 ERWC modules-had a positive impact on student achievement and to document how the ERWC 3.0 was implemented in study schools.
