Reading Recovery

1st Grade

About the Intervention

Reading Recovery is an early literacy intervention for the lowest-achieving 6-year-old children (Year 1, age 5-6). The program provides one-on-one daily literacy instruction delivered by specially trained Reading Recovery teachers. Each child receives individualized lessons focused on reading continuous text, writing, letter knowledge, phonics, and concepts about print. The intervention is typically delivered in schools serving socially and economically deprived neighborhoods. Teachers implementing Reading Recovery must be trained in the program's specific methods and assessment procedures (Observation Survey).
