Match Education High-Dosage Math Tutoring

9th Grade, 10th Grade

About the Intervention

Match Education High-Dosage Math Tutoring is an intensive individualized math instruction program designed for disadvantaged male 9th and 10th grade students who are far behind grade level. The program provides daily two-on-one math tutoring during the school day as a for-credit class, replacing either a second period of math or an elective course. Each 55-minute session consists of 30 minutes focused on remediating skill deficits using Match's proprietary curriculum, followed by 25 minutes tied to classroom learning. Tutors are typically recent college graduates with strong math and interpersonal skills but without formal teacher training, who work for modest stipends similar to AmeriCorps. Each tutor teaches six periods daily and is overseen by a site director who handles behavioral issues and provides professional development. Tutors receive 100 hours of training with daily feedback before implementation.
